Autumn
It's a quiet, rainy Sunday and everyone else in the house is napping except me. Although the calendar says it's still Summer for a bit longer, I can smell Autumn in the air. I was in the kitchen making apple sauce for Phillie and I looked out the window just in time to catch a leaf falling off our River Birch tree. It was as if Fall was happening right before my eyes. It's so amazing to watch the transition of God's creation from shades of green to a wide spectrum of vibrant color! I snapped this picture of the tree and the bright red burning bushes below it. The next few weeks will be like a beautiful painting, constantly evolving, of trees and bushes giving us one last burst of life before they slumber for Winter. I love this time of year in Ohio. It's something I never really got to experience in Oklahoma, where you go straight from Summer into Winter, all at a Friday night football game.

fond memories of my housekeeper
I think a bulk of the fondness for that time stems from the now-impossible task of KEEPING my house clean. Nearly impossible, I should say, with a crawling baby leaving a trail of toys wherever he goes. Now, I suppose, it's a different standard of "clean." My home can be technically clean, yet messy at the same time, you see. C'est la vie.

in with the new
Here's Phillie brand new in the hospital, all 7 pounds and 1 ounce of him completely adorable!
Here he is at 6 weeks!
Daddy and Phillie at Children's for his 2nd steroid injection. This was just before he hit 6 mos. This procedure was done on his right eyelid where he had a Hemangioma. This is a blood vessel cluster that was actually in his eyelid. Praise God, the injections were a success and the Hemangioma is now barely noticeable. We're praying and believing his vision will not be affected.Wednesday, March 14, 2007
Happy anniversary, sort of...
Life has been crazy in this past year. Everyone has a busy life and some people like to talk about those things that keep them busy. I chose not to talk about those things. Most of them were not all that fantastic and probably not worth talking about. You know, just the day-to-day hum drum stuff that we have to do to get by. A percentage of them might have been worth recalling and if I can think of them I'll try to give you an update. An even smaller percentage were things I do not wish to share with the entire world and shall therefore remain unpublished. So there.
Cool things (IMHO): I turned 26 (and now am about to turn 27). It was a good age to be. I feel I've gained wisdom in this past year and great life experience. I spent my birthday in sunny Florida and came back to a nice party at my house :) Some of you were there.
Phil and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and spent it gallivanting around Europe for about ten days. It was a trip that seemed to whisk us back to that carefree time early in our relationship when the world was our oyster. [I guess it still is, we just have a lot more responsibilities. Mortgages have their way of sucking some fun out of life ;) ] We spent time in England, mostly around London, and France - mostly in Paris. I highly recommend doing this at some point in life with the person you love the most. It was worth every penny, pound and euro.
Got a MacBook! Yay!! Love the Mac and the endless possibilities of entertainment via Phil creating songs in Garageband. Good times.
Went to Disney with the family! Always a good time.
Went to Vegas! It was our first trip there. We went for my friend Laura's wedding, which was great and Laura was beautiful. I hadn't seen Laura in probably 4 years and her family in over 5 years. Needless to say, it was great to catch up! Vegas, itself, is hard to sum up. It was just an overwhelming experience of the good and bad things money can bring to your life. You could see extreme wealth and extreme poverty in the span of a few blocks. Despite all that, we had a good time and made some good memories.
Not so cool things: We came back from Europe and the hundreds of digital photos I had taken and put on our computer (not the Mac) were lost when our hard drive crashed. Lesson learned: BACK UP FILES TO CD
My good friend Hattie moved away to Utah for a job. It's a dream job working for the US
Ski and Snowboard Assoc., so I really can't blame her. It just stinks that she's so far away and our communication efforts are so often interrupted by the shoddy signal she gets in the mountains.
That's all I can think of right now. Plus I want to go "play" outside because its a nice day.
Emily, I hope you're happy ;)

Yeah, I know...
Life sucks sometimes. I just lost my grandpa. I posted a blog on my Myspace and it went a little something like this:
"I lost my Grandpa March 3, 2006. He went to be with the Lord while he was sitting in his recliner getting ready for the Tulsa Gun Show. He was an amazing man and the best Grandpa anyone could ask for. He always made me feel special! He always had a smile for you and I don't recall ever seeing him angry. He was pretty laid back, so it would take a lot to get him upset. He was an expert on Colt handguns and world-reknown for his knowledge of them. He also dabbled in jewelry. He gave me a little pair of diamond earrings when I was 2 years old, which I will forever cherish! He let me drive his Corvette around Skiatook (a brave move!). He wasn't the kind of man you would typically see in a Corvette, given that he always wore overalls! But it worked for him ;)
In highschool, he was the captain of the football team and the baseball team in Wellston, OK. He was so good at baseball, in fact, that he was being scouted for the pros and got to play with Mickey Mantle. However, in stead of leading the glamorous life of a star athlete, he opted to serve our country in the military. My Grandpa served in Korea and earned a Purple Heart for his bravery. After coming home, he and my Grandma (Ann) became the parents of Gary (my Dad) and Larry and raised them first in Tulsa before moving to Skiatook. The Keener family lived life in the "fast lane" as my Grandpa owned a dragster and would race it in Tulsa. He's always been an entrepreneur and owned Keener Service station in Tulsa back in the 50's or 60's. He then had a car lot in downtown Skiatook. He loved his cars! Most of all, though, he loved his family. In all the roles he played and "hats" he wore, I think Grandpa was his best!
I went back home to Oklahoma for the funeral, which I wouldn't have missed for anything. It was tough, but starting the grieving process is so important. It was great to see my family and go through this time with them.
If you knew my Granpda for any length of time, you can somewhat relate to the stories I've shared. However, you will never know him quite the same as I did.
My sweet Grandpa, I'll see you again someday! "
So, that's it. I just didn't have the strength to type another one.

Wow
Anyway, about 2 weeks ago our family helped put on a sneak preview for a great film called End of the Spear. Phil has a friend named Eric from ORU/Tulsa whose dad produced it and came up with the idea to do it about 7 years ago. The film is a true account of the events that took place back in 1956 when Jim Elliot, Nate Saint and 3 other men dared to make contact with the Waodoni, the most savage indigenous tribe in Ecuador and the world. The events that transpired will touch your heart and challenge your faith. The film will be released nationwide on January 20th, 2006. Please get behind this film and support it by going to see it opening weekend. This will help extend it's showing time in the theaters.
Last weekend my Mom came to town for a visit. It was really great to catch up and spend some much-needed girl time. We tore it up at the malls. Don't bother going any time soon, because we got all of the good deals ;)

Middle schooler's rock!

So, this is how I spent my weekend! (I'm the adult on the front right) Hanging out with a bunch of kids from my church in Amish country :) It was their yearly retreat to Skyview Ranch and they had a mom cancel at the last minute, so I was called in for reinforcement. It was tons of fun. They are a really fun group and at such a fun age right now. They will do anything with no regard of consequence (and I mean that in a good way). It was so awesome to see them all just praising God and not worrying about what others think. I don't think I was nearly that cool or secure with myself at that age. It rained the whole time, but they didn't seem to care. They still got out there and played games and had fun.
I was glad to get home, though. I missed Phil and home and my dog, and most of all...my bed! Those bunk beds just aren't the same as they were when I was 15. Funny how I can get used to sleeping on a bamboo mat in China for a month, but a bunkbed in a room with 9 middle school girls for a weekend, totally different!

A Long September...
Other than that, we've spent a lot of time with folk from Heritage this week. The drama team, Lifegroupers, random people at a birthday party, etc. Good times all around.
Right now I'm sitting at my in-laws house watching a PPV boxing match with a bunch of guys. The main event is coming up between Roy Jones Jr. and Antonio(?) Tarver. It's sure to be a good one.
Well, I'm gonna go refill the bowl of queso (my specialty, for those of you who don't know).
Buenas Noches!

Uncreative moment
Phil and I spent time with Tim & Brit Poindexter tonight. They're great! Nothin' says lovin' like hot tea and a good CIA show on TV.
Anyway, it's practically the end of the week, so I'm excited. Tomorrow is Thursday, which is really like Friday, because Friday doesn't count. Phil and I are going to the Ohio St. v. Iowa game this weekend! It should be a good time.
I'll leave you with one profound thought: If you ever drop your keys into a river of molten lava, let 'em go. 'Cause man, they're gone.

What the...?
Most of you know by now that I own a MINI Cooper. I love that car. It loves me. We're happy together :) We like to spend time "motoring" (it's a MINI thing).
Well, MINIUSA.com started a photo Scavenger Hunt about a month or so ago. You wake up on Tuesdays at 4:00 a.m. (EST), check the Owner's Lounge page for the week's mission and go take a photo of your car in front of said target. [For example, this week you had to go find an old-fashioned barber shop with the spinning candy-stripe pole.] You get ranked by the time that it takes you from when the mission was released until you can get home and upload your photo to the site. The person with the lowest elapsed time wins a 6-day trip to MINI United in Italy (it's a big rally for MINIs, naturally).
So, being the lunatic I am, I'm participating in this "hunt." I'm actually doing quite well in the rankings. I'm in 9th place overall, out of hundreds, with the potential of being in 6th place. Some folks ahead of me had questionable photos this week (i.e. no visible pole, pole painted on sign/building, etc.) Being that I live in the near-200-year-old town of Westerville, Ohio, this was not difficult to find.
The thing is, I get this incredible adrenaline rush when my phone alarm goes off and it doesn't go away easily. Especially when I come home and realize that I could possibly have moved up in the ranking. My heart is pumping and my stomach is flippy. I mean, hey, I WANT TO GO TO ITALY. GOSH!

Farewell sweet weekend, you've come and gone so quickly...
I didn't go to the movies. Not sure there's anything worth my hard-earned $8.50 out right now. We did end up having some yummy Mexican food Friday night with some friends and some good laughs to follow. Yesterday I did, indeed, have brunch with Ann followed by shopping. I behaved myself though and purchased one (1) sweater, ON SALE. So there.
The Buckeyes won, YAY, so all is well for now in the "Buckeye Nation."
Today was spent going to church, relaxing with my Ohio parents and going to part of a hockey game. We forgot the Sun. games start at 5:00 so, yeah, we were a little late. But the timing was perfect because the Blue Jackets were stinkin' it up [0-3] before we got there. The last period was the only one worth seeing anyway. They scored 2 goals but we still lost 2-3. Oh well, it's only pre-season, right? Definitely exciting to have NHL back though.
OK, it's 11:44 now. 16 minutes left to do one more productive thing before it's officially Monday. Ready?....go!

TGIF!!!!!!!!
Well, that's all for now. Must update iPod with podcasts from godsipod.com. You can get the entire New Testament in a chapter-a-weekday format. Pretty sweet.
